Cargo boat built in 1910 long from108 meters. His weight is 3960 tones. During the Second World War the owner of the boat decided to let it to his country. This one was used to transport coal to the Royal Marine established in Gibraltar and Alexandria. The Rosalie Moller on the way to Alexandria should stop before the Suez Canal waiting for new orders. All the boats should wait before to cross the Suez Canal according to the aircraft attacks, the boats rank, the boats number who wanted already pass. But the German secret services heard that a big boat with 1200 British military troop tried to pass the Suez Canal. During the night the German planes went to destroy the famous ship. The 6th of October 1941 they bombarded the Thistlegorm. When the bombs exploded this gave a strong light and show to the German army all the boats around. The 8th of October in the middle of the night the German air army came back and bombed the Rosalie Moller.
You need 3 hours from El Gouna to join the Rosalie Moller. This wreck takes place between few islands like Gubal and Tawila Island. The Rosalie Moller is situated between -17 and -50 meters depth. We found the deck around -35 meters. This wreck lies in the channel north of Gubal Island and is a dive only for the more experienced as the visibility can be reduced and the wreck swept by strong currents on occasions.
We can find often some surface current and some current during the first 15 meters. The descent must be quite fast. The weather can change quickly and the wind can become stronger it is why the boat must put at least two underwater ropes. But all of this is a small effort to do to be one of the lucky divers who discovered this giant wreck. The Rosalie Moller looks like a ghost ship in the middle of this strange green water. You will meet big groupers, giant glass fishes, murena who are leaving in some tubes.
Also known as the 'Ships Graveyard', this reef is dangerously positioned close to the busy shipping lanes of the Gulf of Suez. This reef has claimed more ships than any other in the area. On the northern side are four wrecks laying on a sandy seafloor at the bottom of a steep sloping reef layered with table corals. On the south side are a safe anchorage for liveaboards and two beautiful ergs, known as Yellow fish reef that make an excellent third dive or night dive or an alternative if the weather is extremely bad.
The Carnatic was a 90 meters goelette with a vapor machine. It has been built in1862. The 12th of September in the evening the Carnatic was navigating between Suez and Bombay. The Suez Canal was still not opened. The boat got on board 230 passengers, mails for the British living in India and a lot of wine. The 13th of September the boat went completely on the Abu Nuhas reef. At the beginning the boat didn’t have big damages and the passengers stayed in the boat. But the boat, the Sumatra, who should come to help them, was late and the wind became stronger. Suddenly the boat was broken in two parts. 27 passengers died and the others got the time to get the launches and join the Shadwan island.
The Carnatic is situated near by Sha’ab Abu Nuhas at 24 meters depth. Four boats made shipwreck on this place. The Kimon M, the Chrisoula`K, the Carnatic and the Gianis D.
You need at least 2h30 from El Gouna to reach this place. It lies on the sand at -24 meters. The current and the wind come from the north. The place where the boats shipwreck is not protected it is why it is not advised to dive there with bad weather. Most of the safaris start in March and finish in November in this area for this reason.
The Carnatic was a wood boat but with the time all the wood disappeared and now we can only observe the metallic braces. The Carnatic is famous for its fauna and flora. Hundred of glass fishes appear through the metallic arms, the black corals cover a part of the wreck, carangues hunting pass in the big blue, napoleon. The wreck is now home to large grouper, octopus and morays and jacks and tuna cruise overhead.
The legend says that a forty thousand pounds treasure would be hidden in the boat. But till now nobody found it. Try your chance!
Built in 1970, long from 100 meters, the Giannis was transporting 3000 barrels. In 1983, the boat left the Croatia to join the Yemen. But it hits the Abu Nuhas reef.
As the Carnatic, the Giannis D is situated in Abu Nuhas reef at 27 meters depth. You need also 2h30 from Hurghada to join the wreck. You will find the same current and the same weather conditions than for the Carnatic. The wreck is cut in to part at – 27 meters till -7 meters. 20 meters separate the two parts of the boat.
Some parts of the boat have been bitten by the parrot fishes. It is a luminous wreck, still in a good state, full of colors and life. Perfect for the beginner divers who want to dive in a wreck. It is not very deep and the good light make you feel save. Discover a fully intact stern section and an impressive engine room packed with glass fish. It is a great wreck for penetration but beware of disorientation due to the angle at which it lays. Be weary of the many lion fish and scorpion fish that call this wreck home and watch out for the strong surges in and around the wreck in rough weather.
Built at Lubeck (Germany) in 1954, This 106 meters long general cargo vessel had two cargo holds either side of her superstructure, or was powered by MAN diesel engines.
In 1970 she was renamed as the Anna B. She changed hands again in 1979, purchased by the Clarion Marine (a Greek company with financial connections to the Pandio and Vikki shipping lines), and became the Chrisoula K.
Final Voyage
In August 1981 the Chrisoula K, loaded with a cargo of Italian floor tiles, departed for Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). On board was Stephan Jablonski. Since his survival of the sinking of the Marcus in 1978, he had survived the ELPHINKI K and the VIKI K sinking too, all interconnected through a web of holding companies in the shadowy world of Greek shipping. Stephan reported that an unscheduled stop was made at Syracuse where cargo was unloaded, before continuing the journey through the Suez Canal. He was shortly to experience his 4th premature departure from a Greek vessel. "During my next shift I was working in the generator room when suddenly the ship ground to a halt and there was that now familiar sound of twisting, screaming metal. I ran up onto deck and thought I was dreaming - there was that island and again, there was the same reef in front of us. We were still afloat but held fast by the bow and the swell was pushing the ship deeper into the reef. Although it didn't seem as though we were sinking we were ordered into the boats. Again we were rescued by a passing ship with the Egyptian navy in attendance".
 3129 ton cargo vessel

The Kimon M was a general cargo vessel of 3,129 tonnes, with four cargo holds - two forward of and two aft of the central bridge structure. She was built Germany in 1952 and in December 1978, loaded with 4,500 tons of lentils she made her final voyage. On December 12th 1978, with engines at full speed the Kimon M drove hard onto the northeast corner of Sha'ab Abu Nuhâs Reef. A passing cargo ship, the Interasja, immediately responded to the distress call and picked up all the crew and delivered them safely to Suez two days later.
The initial impact drove the Kimon M hard onto the top of the reef where she stayed for several days, allowing the recovery of some of her cargo. Wind and currents pushed the ship onto her starboard side until the remainder of the ship fell into deeper water, coming to rest at the base of the reef. Later a large hole was cut into the vessel in order to salvage the majority of the engine
